Sponsorship needed for Magna Carta Celebrations
On June 13, Spelthorne Borough Council will be holding celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta. Sponsorship for the day is still being welcomed, and will offer businesses some excellent exposure in front of an expected audience of up to 5000 people for the medieval event 'The Barons Gathering' taking place at the Lammas Recreation ground, between 12.15 - 20.15 (o clock).
This event will celebrate the little known fact that many of the Magna Carta Barons met in Staines-upon-Thames before making their way to Runnymede to confront King John. The event will feature all things medieval, including jousting, falconry, medieval dance and music, hog roast, ale tasting, children's activities and much more. Many local schools have been working on creating their own medieval banners which will be on display at the event and we have even requested a fly past by the Red arrows. A selection of local choirs will be performing an extract of the specially commissioned Magna Carta Opera 'The freedom Game' which was recently performed at the Royal Albert Hall.
5000 people + are predicted to attend the event, as there is close liaison with other Magna Carta celebrations in the local area, including the Spelthorne River Flotilla which will arrive at the Barons Gathering at approximately 5pm.
The Barons Gathering aims to highlight and celebrate the local heritage and community within Spelthorne as well as to educate and raise public awareness of the Magna Cartas historical influence in an exciting and engaging way.
